Unfortunately, the FDA and manufacturers issue product recalls every week. Some manufacturers don’t have a clear, responsive product pick-up/recall policy in place. They are naïve about the consequences.

Soured Orange Juice

Manufacturer received complaints and threats of lawsuits from consumers about digestive problems from soured orange juice. Manufacturer “issues recall” (i.e., tells grocers and their broker forces to remove product). After 30 days: Field Solutions called into “emergency situation” to conduct a “search and destroy” mission. Found 17% of stores still had tainted product.

The stores or the manufacturer’s brokers certainly didn’t want this to occur. But they lacked the focus and incentive to take corrective action.
